Statist Day-Care in Ontario
Details are still vague at this time, but today the Government of Ontario government announced its plans to push forward with a government run day-care system. While this sort of scheme has been rejected in two consecutive federal elections and is a massive failure of a program in Quebec, that’s not stopping McGuinty and crew.
So far, they are claiming this racket will cost approximately $1 billion, but McGuinty refuses to say if he will raise taxes or not to cover the new costs (which will inevitably climb as do all government programs). Let’s hope that those right now vying to replace his government use this as an issue from which to differentiate themselves and not reflect another shade of his program. With a record deficit of over $14 billion, taxpayers can hardly afford the government to now pick up the tab for raising our children as well.

Care to explain how this is a “massive failure” in Quebec or do you make stuff up?
A lot of the spaces in Quebec have gone to the quick, yuppie and well-connected. You had to be fast, mobile and used to bureaucracy to get a space by registering with multiple places and even registering lately as soon as you get pregnant.
The government does all it can to discourage for-profit start-ups and those that are already existing by various means, one of which is to outlaw any extra fees which means daycares can’t attract people by offering extra activities.
In any case Quebec has one of the more mediocre child-educator ratios and square feet per child ratio.
Liberal governments love national daycare because they have all those unionized employees who are beholden to them.

Liberal governments love to create large un-needed bureaucracy’s, to give supporters, family, friends, minnions and other liberals lucrative jobs for life with equally lucrative pensions and golden parrachutes, they will put their closest friends in positions that control how the money is spent.
Aahhh… to be a liberal in power with your hands on the purse strings…..

this legislation will give the daycare employees the excuse to ask that they too become the part of the teachers union and watch these “educators” go from $12 an hour to $45000 a year before you know it. all i ever asked when my child went to daycare was to make sure that my child is returned to me in the same condition as when i dropped him off. i do not care about the “programs” that they had, just watch him for the day. sadly were going to pay for this socialist garbage for a very long time.
