Canadian Heritage Moment: Chrétien Chokes a Guy
In the spirit of Sheila Copps’ “heritage moments”, Fildebrandt.ca is pleased to bring you the latest addition to this site.
February 15, 1996: Prime Minister Jean Chrétien is shaking hands at an event to commemorate Canada’s national flag. Radical socialist and separatist Bill Clennett heckled the prime minister and in close proximity. The closeness of that proximity was obvious when the prime minister put Mr. Clennett in a choke-hold and broke one of his teeth.
An obvious over-reaction that would have landed almost any other citizen in court (even if they were justified), but then again, Clennett probably had it coming.

its a wonder the Harper has not found them.
I dunno.
I’m not a huge fan of Chretien, but when someone screaming at you breaks through an RCMP security detail and charges at you, he gets whats coming. I’ve seen that video umpteen times and I still can’t see how it is anything but Chretien protecting himself from a lunatic threatening his personal safety.
How would you have reacted in that 1.5 seconds with a stranger charging directly at you?
I didn’t agree with the guy on much of anything, but that’s why he was leadership material and Dion/Iggy are not. Stephen would pull his shirt over his head and pound him, no doubt.
Reminds me of the Chapelle Show:
“Is Jean Chretien gonna have to choke a bitch?”
Some believe that Chretien had ties to the Quebec mob but hell what do I know?
I ***LOVED*** it when Jean-boy throttled that loser!!!
Too bad M. Chretien didn’t throw that loser to the ground and kick him in the nuts while he was at it. And to think Harpo’s Harpies get their knickers in a twist when somebody plants a well deserved pie in their faces – LOL!
