To the Information Commissioner of Canada,

I wish to file a complaint regarding the failure of the Canadian Human Rights Commission to respond to an Access to Information and Privacy Request (file numbers 106-03-2009-24, 106-03-2009-25 and 106-03-2009-23) within the prescribed timeline.  Having filed the request on August 25, 2009 and received acknowledgement dated August 28, 2009, ATIP Coordinator Ginette Bastien requested an extension on September 21, 2009.

Ms. Bastien indicated that the original time limit would “unreasonably interfere with the operations of the government institution.”  While the desirability of having the CHRC operate at all is another matter, I feel that this is an entirely inadequate excuse as my request is simply for the receipts of Chief Commissioner Lynch’s taxpayer funded travel to Vienna, Geneva, Dublin, Copenhagen and Kuala Lampur.  As this request is not a complex one – since the receipts should be readily available – I respectfully ask that this extension not be granted, and that the information be provided promptly.

I look forward to your response and the information requested from the Canadian Human Rights Commission.

    Yours truly,

    Derek Fildebrandt
